The
foundation
In 1997 the author and several others took the initiative to establish the "Foundation Jewish Monument Wageningen and neighbouring communities". The objective was to erect a monument for the Jews from Wageningen and
the neighbouring municipalities who died during the German occupation
from 1940-1945. Wageningen, the town where after the defeat of the Germans
the capitulation-documents were signed by the Germans, did not have such
a monument until 1997. With the support of many people the objective
was
achieved. In November 1999 the artist Yetty Elzas was given the assignment to
realise her design and on the 4th of May 2000 the monument was unveiled
by the
mayor of Wageningen Mr. J.F. Sala together with rabbi J.S. Jacobs. The
foundation regards this book "Een eerlijcke plaets" as a second
monument for the Jewish inhabitants of Wageningen and its neighbouring
communities.
